Leaving Rapid City
Starting from Rapid City, we ventured out for a brilliant adventure in the Black Hills, South Dakota.
Deadwood’s Wild West Charm
We set off for Deadwood, excited for a brilliant family adventure in the heart of South Dakota’s Black Hills! This historic Wild West town was full of charm, and just strolling down Main Street felt like stepping into a living, breathing piece of history. With its old-fashioned storefronts, wooden sidewalks, and vibrant atmosphere, it quickly became a place we’ll always remember.
After soaking up the sights along Main Street, we made our way to Saloon No. 10, the iconic spot where Wild Bill Hickok met his fate. Filled with Old West memorabilia, it was fascinating to learn about the stories of outlaws and lawmen. The kids loved it, and we enjoyed the lively vibe and the mix of history and fun.
We also explored The Bullock Hotel, Deadwood’s oldest hotel and casino, built by Sheriff Seth Bullock. Its 19th-century charm and intriguing ghost stories added to its character, making it feel like a piece of living history.
A visit to the Adams Museum was a highlight for the whole family, with its fascinating exhibits on Native American culture, the gold rush, and Deadwood’s wild past. And we couldn’t miss the Days of ’76 Museum, where we were amazed by the collection of historic wagons and rodeo memorabilia from one of America’s oldest rodeos.
Deadwood truly stole our hearts—this place is so special, full of history, adventure, and memories we’ll cherish forever. If you're exploring the Black Hills, make sure Deadwood is on your list. It’s a place we’ll never forget!

Deadwood Main Street
Devils Tower Wonder
Next, we made our way to Devils Tower, a truly awe-inspiring volcanic rock formation that rises dramatically from the plains. You can spot it from miles away as you drive, its towering presence seemingly growing bigger with every passing mile. Famously featured in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, it’s even more impressive in person. As we got closer, we couldn’t help but marvel at its sheer size and unique shape—it’s like nothing else we’ve ever seen. The kids were absolutely thrilled to see climbers scaling its sides, which made the experience even more exciting. It’s a natural wonder that leaves you in awe, and definitely one of those moments we’ll always remember!
